The famous jewelry of Tunis – Sidi Bou Said

 

maxresdefaultSidi Bou Said is the beautiful place that can make you feel that you are living a beautiful dream in white and blue colors and make you wish to not wake up.

Starting with the first step in the city,  you  will feel that nothing can stop you to explore more  and  by shore you will feel that great energy that makes you smile at all you see around: special doors in white and blue, the beauty of  trees, the contrast of sky when it meets the sea and the boats there are waiting for a new adventure.

This city conserved the traditional Tunisian culture that is mixed with different civilization, antiquity of characteristics ranging from Phoenician to Arab- Andalusian origins and Greece. The suburb of Sidi Bou Said is first a protected site in the world and was founded in the centuries Alostyqria Sidi Bou Said at the same time.

Sidi Bou Said was built on the mountain of M’nara (Minaret), in this days it is known as Sidi Bou Said mountain , to offer a better guard to the sea and also for the Tunis city in Punic period.  During Punic and Roman times, a fire was in place at the lighthouse to guide boats.

The city was named after an important figure of Sufism (defined as the inner mystical dimension of Islam), Sidi Bou Said El Beji that decide to be settled in this area. He was born in 1156 and come in this area for studding and teach religion at the Zitouna mosque in Tunis. This mountain became his sanctuary, and after his death his mausoleum became a famous place for pilgrimage, that still can see today.

The aspects of houses are  influenced by Rodolphe d’Erlanger, after he decided to live here. He is a famous painter who settled the blue-white theme in the 1920s.

The town was also the home of French philosopher Michel Foucault, who lived there for a number of years while teaching at the University of Tunis.

You can lose your steps on this cobbled streets opening the door to a labyrinth of culture finding art shops, souvenir stalls, café places and beautiful houses with their brilliant blue doors that  will remain printed in the memories of this place.

The fragrance of flowers will freshen your journey and will delight you with cascading flowers off walls, wrapped around gates and tumbling down the cliffs. The orange flavored coffee will make you feel like the luckiest person just for the fact that you are there , helping you with new power to continue you the trip.

The beauty of this place makes you not  tired of looking at and discover the culture of this place.

Sidi Bou Said has inspired artists like Paul Klee and writer André Gide and it’s still doing, leaving doors open for everyone that has the desire to discover the beauty of world
